Seattle to Madrid for 20K points - Seattle Travel Points Club

We wanted to visit Europe again and line up our travel with our daughter’s school break in February of 2024, so we started to look for air travel deals 11 months out.

I started with checking Air France and was flexible with the dates. Madrid Spain was a city we wanted to visit so I plugged in Seattle to Madrid, selected Feb 17 2024, one way and found it was 20K miles + $80 for taxes and fees per person! For the trip home on Feb 24 it was also 20K miles + $143 for taxes and fees.

So is 20K a good deal? Heck yeah! 20K is equivalent $200 (1 cent per point). If we didn’t use points for the same flights, it would have been $1281 per person! We have a family of 6, so it would have cost us $7,680 to fly us out there round trip for the very same flights! It cost us 240K miles and $1782 out of pocket for taxes / fees / seat selection.
